Description

I need help De-junking and Cleaning our home and getting the clutter out of my vehicles. (THIS IS A LONG AD. STOP NOW IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED IN IT.) I have read a couple of books by Marie Kondo. She is that lovely lady from Japan who has developed her own very special way of organizing. I got this next part off the web- “How do I start the Marie Kondo method? There are six basic rules to get started: 1. Commit yourself to tidying up. 2. Imagine your ideal lifestyle. 3. Finish discarding first. Before getting rid of items, sincerely thank each item for serving its purpose. 4. Tidy by category, not location. 5. Follow the right order. 6. If you have any doubt as to whether you should keep something or let it go, hold it in your hand and ask yourself if this item sparks joy in you. If it does not spark joy, thank it for its service and get rid of it. I need help getting rid of a bunch of junk and clutter in our house. And, I need help cleaning our home. Tasks include: Sorting through the random things in our home and helping me throw “stuff” away or give “stuff away”. Cleaning the kitchen floor and counter, Cleaning off the dining room table, Putting the dirty dishes in the dishwasher, Running the dishwasher and Putting the clean dishes away, Cleaning the bathrooms, Running the vacuum cleaner, Removing sheets from my bed and washing and drying them and putting clean sheets back on the bed, Washing my laundry in our washing machine, Drying my clothes in our dryer, and Putting my clean clothes away. Other important tasks include getting the random items and “stuff” out of my car AND my SUV (things tend to accumulate in my vehicles), Clearing off the random stuff on the “other side” of my king size bed (as that is another flat surface in our home where things tend to accumulate). The things on the other side of the bed include books, clothes, random things that I bought on Amazon, medications that I take, etc. (My lovely daughter takes care of putting my meds into those small plastic weekly pill boxes.) I would love to someday park a car in our garage. The garage (like the rest of our house) is full of random clutter. Our house is about 7 miles northwest of UF, a couple of miles past the Hunter’s Crossing Publix located at the southwest corner of NW 43rd Street and NW 53rd Avenue. You have to own a car or a truck. Riding a bike to our house, taking the Regional Transit Bus (it does not stop anywhere near our house), or getting someone to drop you off and pick you up just does not work. We have tried all of those methods of getting someone out here and back to their home. It does not work. The only thing that works is for you to own a car or a truck. Not one that you borrow. Please tell me what your year and model vehicle is. COVID - My daughter and I have both had both shots of the Moderna vaccine. I don't want to be around persons who are not vaccinated. I am in that group of people with compromised health who should not get the COVID virus. I have already spent 2-3 days on a ventilator in the Fall of 2017. I will want to see your proof of vaccination card. If you have not been fully vaccinated for the Corona Virus, this is not the job for you. I don't want to catch the COVID Delta Virus. This is not negotiable. If you smoke cigarettes, this is not the job for you. I have an extremely sensitive nose and cigarette smoke particles that will come off your clothes while you are in our house will cause my sinuses to react and get all congested as I am very allergic to cigarette smoke. We have tried hiring people who smoke cigarettes before and it never worked. When I was in the hospital in the Fall of 2017, I suffered a very serious and life changing spinal cord injury. My heart also stopped for 6-7 minutes while I was in the hospital. My heart doctor tells me that my heart has recovered and is doing great. I was not able to walk for many months following my 67 day stay in the hospital. I am a person with some very profound physical disabilities. Over two years of physical therapy, I graduated from a wheelchair to a walker to a rollator and now to a cane. (Being in a wheelchair for several months was a good way for me to learn some humility.) I am very proud that I have relearned how to walk. It was very hard to relearn how to walk.) I had several very talented physical therapists who worked hard with me and encouraged me. I would not have relearned how to walk without their steadfast guidance, coaching and encouragement. I still have a rather spastic gait. (A police officer who saw me walking from my car towards a Publix came over and asked me if I had been drinking). I wobble a bit and walk like a person who has had a stroke. (I did have a stroke when my heart stopped and my brain did not get oxygen for 6-7 minutes while the doctors and nurses worked hard to revive me.) I used to ride the largest model motorcycle that Harley Davidson makes. Fortunately, my late wife’s ghost kept telling me to sell it and fortuitously, I sold it two weeks before I went into the hospital for 67 days and became paralyzed. I used to ride a bike, operate large chainsaws and split the pieces of wood up using a splitting mall. (We heat our house with a woodstove). I used to have a large vegetable and flower garden. That is all weeds now. I used to have 3 or 4 bee hives and enjoyed keeping the bees and taking care of them very much. The bees all died while I was in the hospital as it was the Fall and nobody gave them any sugar water. I gave my bee keeping stuff away. I used to build things. I don’t do that anymore. I still enjoy going fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. I put my boat in the water at the Steinhatchee boat ramp. I bought this four bedroom, 2.5 bathroom home in 1985. That is 36 years ago. It used to be very beautiful inside, before my late wife died from ALS in 2010. Over the last 11 years, I have not kept it the way that it used to be. Our house started going downhill soon after she was diagnosed as having ALS in April 2009. She died ten months later in late January 2010. My late wife really enjoyed hiring UF students to clean the house and babysit our daughter when she was a small child. My daughter is now 24 years old. She is slowly moving out and she is taking our dog with her. Someday, it will be just me living here. I will not let any of my friends come over to my house as I am too embarrassed for them to see the mess and disorder inside our home. I turn 70 in March 2022. It feels weird to think that I am going to turn 70 next year. I have never thought of myself as a person approaching my 70th birthday. I used to go on a trip overseas every year. I still go occasionally. My last trip was to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur Malaysia in the Fall of 2019. I was still in a wheelchair then. My Physical Therapist told me to hang onto my wheelchair. It is a lightweight wheelchair that I bought off of eBay. He said that I might need it sometime. I have worked for UF as a non-tenure track Member of the Faculty for almost 25 years. They have been a fantastic employer. I don’t plan on retiring anytime soon. I love my job. I love what I do. I need for someone to come and work for me here in my house and help me make it beautiful and neat and clean and orderly again. The former county sheriff came to visit me while I was in the hospital. So did the former Clerk of the Court, a bunch of friends from my Rotary Club, one of the UF Vice Presidents and the UF Police Chief. I have a ton of friends who will vouch for the strength of my character. Heck, you can ask the Manager of the Publix down the street about me. He will tell you that I am a really nice person. I think that having someone come over and spend about fifteen to twenty hours a week de-junking our house will fit into my schedule.
