Program OverviewKeynote Address: Dr. Noliwe Rooks, Department Head, Africana Studies at Brown University and founding director of the Segrenomics Lab. Rooks’ current book, in which she coined the term “segrenomics,” is Cutting School: Privatization, Segregation, and the End of Public Education won an award for non-fiction from the Hurston/Wright Foundation. You can purchase this book when you register ($15) or at the conference - Professor Rooks will be available to autograph her book at the end of the day. Other Featured Presenters: Dr. Carol Burris, Executive Director, Network for Public Education (NPE), will present findings from her recent report: Chartered for Profit: The Hidden World of Charter Schools Operated for Financial Gain. Matt Ellinwood, J.D., Education and Law Project Director, NC Justice Center, will discuss the 2020 study conducted by Jane Wettach (Children’s Law Clinic at Duke University) as part of an examination of how the NC's school voucher program is impacting public education.
