Description

MEDFORD, MA — The city recently conducted a Road Safety Audit for three major intersections where safety and accessibility upgrades are being implemented – Main Street at South Street and Mystic Valley Parkway, Main Street at Mystic Avenue and Medford Square. The audit is a requirement for long-term improvements at the Main and South intersection, Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koehn said. During such audits, project staff, transportation engineers and other stakeholders visit the sites of proposed projects, document existing conditions and traffic patters and provide recommendations. Medford's goal for these projects is to incorporate improvements for all road users, including drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians, Lungo-Koehn said. Attendees during the recent audits included staff from the city of Medford, MassDOT and the MBTA, project consultants and advocates from WalkMedford and the Medford Bicycle Advisory Commission. The next step is to compile a traffic report on Main Street and Medford Square, which Lungo-Koehn said will serve as a guide for future road projects.
