HERNDON, VA — As of Wednesday, everyone over the age of 2 regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status must wear a mask indoors when visiting Town of Herndon facilities, according to a town release.
This new mandate includes the following facilities:
Herndon Municipal CenterHerndon Community CenterHerndon Town HallHerndon Centennial Golf CourseHerndon Public Works ComplexHerndon Police Department. In addition, the same mask restrictions apply to those attending public meetings, including public hearings of the Herndon Town Council, as those well as taking place at town boards and commissions.
Earlier this summer, the town lifted mask restrictions at its facilities. The decision to reinstitute restrictions came as the Delta variant of the coronavirus has caused a hike in the number of reported COVID-19 cases.
The Virginia Department of Health reported 1,845 new cases of the coronavirus on Friday, the highest one-day increase since mid-April when a far smaller percentage of the state's adult population were fully vaccinated to COVID-19.
On Monday, many retailers in Northern Virginia and the Fredericksburg area began re-implementing mask mandates to help curb the spread of coronavirus.
