SUMMIT, NJ — Vivid Stage, which changed its name from Dreamcatcher Repertory Theatre last month, announced Monday that it will be offering in-person improv classes this season for adults and teens aged 18 and up.
According to a release, Improv for Teens and Adults will be held at Oakes Center in Summit, 120 Morris Ave., and offer students an introduction to improv comedy, or allow those with improv experience to further explore what they already have learned.
The classes will teach improv through exercises and games in a safe and supportive atmosphere, according to the group. Students will learn to think on their feet, while honing skills like teamwork and listening, which are beneficial on the improv stage and in everyday life.
The classes will be taught by Becca McLarty, who has been a student, performer and teacher of improv for 20 years, according to the release.
McClarty currently teaches in the acting program at Montclair State and has performed in improv troupes like: Improvolution in New York City, ComedySportz Philadelphia, Broadway's Next Hit Musical! and the Montclair Improv. McClarty also trained at Improvolution, founded by Holly Mandel of The Groundlings, and Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB).
The improv classes will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning Sept. 8. Four sessions will be offered: fall, late fall, winter and spring. The sessions can be done individually or in combination.
All performers will be asked to show proof of vaccination upon registration, according to Vivid Stage.
Registration and class information is available on the Vivid Stage website.
