ARVADA, CO — Progress continues on the Ralston Road Construction Project in Arvada. Phase 1 of the project, which reconstructed Ralston Road between Upham and Yukon Streets, was completed in July. The phase included upgrades to the roadway's accessibility, pavement and aesthetics. Phase 2, which will improve Ralston between Yukon and Garrison Streets, began in June, and is expected to take two years to complete. Upcoming road closures Northbound access to Balsam from Ralston Road will be closed until further notice. Various short term lane closures will be in effect along Ralston Road within the project limits for lateral water line work, potholing and other work, the city said.Single lane closures will occur between Garrison and Estes in both directions of Ralston Road on Saturday, for water line installation.No through traffic is permitted on the north side of Allison Street at Ralston Road until further notice. The new sidewalk width exceeds Americans with Disabilities Act minimums and supports the needs of Arvada's aging population, the city said. The extended width also allows pedestrians to walk side-by-side or with their pets and creates distance from the travel lanes. Widening the existing 9-foot vehicle travel lanes to 11 feet, which will help decrease sideswipe accidents, officials said.Installation of gutter pans to provide an additional 1 feet of space for the accumulation of rain, snow and debris outside the travel lanes. Widen the center two-way-left-turn lane to 12 feet to increase driver safety and comfort while stopped between passing vehicles. Reconstruction of aging traffic signals with new technology to improve traffic progression. Phase 1 of the project — which cost around $5.36 million — was funded in part by a grant from the Denver Regional Council of Governments, and the rest of the funding was provided by the city of Arvada.
