CONCORD, NH — It has been a busy day for news in the Granite State as well as the nation (NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo will resign in two weeks, according to reports). While it was a soggy start, it has dried out nicely. But hot temps are on the horizon, according to weather forecasters — with a heat advisory in effect from noon to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Here is everything going on in New Hampshire right now. Mask Mandate In Nashua Schools The Nashua School Board voted on Monday to require face coverings and masks for students and staff during the next school year, according to WMUR-TV. The state's second-largest school district joins the third-largest school district, Concord, in requiring masks despite passionate testimony on both sides of the argument. The state is holding a number of meetings in August, both in-person and online, about the new rail trails plan. Here are the details. Banks Partner With Franklin Pierce University Bankers in New Hampshire are partnering with a university in an effort to recruit more and new employees for the industry. Kristy Merrill, the president of the NH Bankers, said the opportunity with Franklin Pierce University will give current bank employees the chance to advance their careers and assist their families, too. The school will provide professional development, at a discounted rate, and also credits through a prior learning assessment program for certifications and training. Heather LaDue, the executive director of professional programs and partnerships at the school, said the idea provided a clear path to professional success for employees. 6 Arrested On Fraud Loan Scheme Charges Six people were charged in U.S. District Court in Concord on Monday accused of participating in a fraudulent loan scheme to defraud New Hampshire financial institutions. Solomon Yarteh, 47, of Sierra Leone; Robesteur St. Felix, 46, of Manchester; Niurka Lebron, 44, previously of Boston, Massachusetts; Donna Marie Silva, 43, of Lowell, MA; Arthur Beckett, 35, of Covington, Georgia; and Amara Jalloh, 41, of Sierra Leone; were all charged with bank fraud while St. Felix and Silva were also charged with money laundering. The indictments accused the defendants of applying for loans to purchase vehicles to be sold in Manchester — even though they never owned the vehicles and had deflated their cost. The financial institutions were bilked for hundreds of thousands of dollars, according to investigators.
