JOLIET, IL — A 27-year-old Joliet man was arrested Monday night on the city's west side after Joliet police say Kenneth P. Peterson punched a woman in the face, grabbed her hair and then grabbed the infant child of the woman's sister and tried running away. Joliet police say the child was unharmed and Peterson was later arrested on charges of aggravated battery, domestic battery, resisting a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, criminal property damage, criminal trespass to a motor vehicle and endangering the life of a child. The incident leading to Peterson's arrest happened around 9:15 p.m. in the 100 block of Benedict Avenue. Joliet police say Peterson beat up a woman during a domestic disturbance. The woman is the sister of Peterson's girlfriend, police reports show. "Further investigation revealed that an argument ensued after Peterson entered a vehicle owned by the victim's sister at which time, he began repeatedly sounding the horn," Joliet police announced. "The victim exited the house and removed the keys from the vehicle as Peterson had been drinking." Later, Peterson punched the woman in the face and pulled her hair, according to police. "After battering the victim, Peterson then approached the sister of the victim who was holding an infant child at which time he grabbed the child and fled on foot from the scene," police reports indicate. Joliet police officers called to the scene saw Peterson carrying the infant as he ran toward Marmion Avenue and Webster Street, in Joliet's Marycrest Area. "Officers gave chase at which time Peterson placed the infant upon the ground in front of a residence on Marmion Avenue and then continued to flee from officers," Sgt. Dwayne English stated. "Officers caught up to Peterson and placed him into custody after a brief struggle." Peterson was booked into the Will County Jail around 11 p.m. Jail logs indicate that he lives in an apartment unit in the 700 block of North Raynor Avenue.
