JOLIET, IL —A 28-year-old Joliet man was arrested Monday evening after Joliet police say Keon Spencer ran from his car crash at Richards Street and Second Avenue and tried to hide his stolen gun behind a nearby business.
Spencer, who lives in the 200 block of Union Street, was booked into the Will County Jail around 8:30 p.m. on charges of unlawful use of a weapon by a convicted felon, possession of a stolen gun and unlawful possession of ammunition.
According to police, Spencer initially ran from the scene of his traffic crash around 6:20 p.m., only to return a few minutes later.
"Further investigation determined that the Spencer was seen disposing of an item behind a nearby business before returning to the scene. Officers checked the rear of this same business in the 100 block of Richards Street, at which time they recovered a handgun," Joliet police announced.
Joliet police later learned the gun was stolen, officials said.
