WOODRIDGE, IL — A Naperville family recently launched an initiative to raise $100,000 in support of West Suburban Community Pantry. As part of their Hand Up Fund, Nick and Teresa Ryan have pledged to match donations to the pantry by 50 percent over a period of 100 days.
"The Hand Up Fund is designed to help people get back on their feet and relieve some of the stress that comes from not being able to properly feed their children," Nick Ryan said in a news release.
He continued, "Teresa and I are pleased to be able to offer clients not a handout, but a hand up. Providing people with food can help them afford the shelter, healthcare and childcare they need to re-enter the workforce."
Teresa Ryan added, "Our community has faced an unprecedented challenge, and we are hoping the community will join us to be part of the solution."
The Hand Up Fund kicked off Aug. 6. According to West Suburban Community Pantry, a total of $100,000 in donations will provide three daily meals for 185 people for an entire year.

Feeding America, which supports 200 food banks across the country, estimates that in 2020, more than 50 million Americans will not have enough nutritious food to eat due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
