Inaugural Metzger Cup Featured On Lacrosse Showcase Website

The new Metzger Cup for local high school lacrosse now is featured on the website of The Original Long Island Lacrosse Showcase. The boys high school showcase, through a series of games among the public school players of Nassau and Suffolk counties, develops teams that compete before college coaches as these athletes prepare for their next steps academically and athletically. This year’s games were held on July 2. The Nassau versus Suffolk games introduced the Metzger Cup for the winning teams and the James C. Metzger Most Valuable Player awards for outstanding players. The cup and MVP awards at each of the four games – Rising Freshmen, Rising Sophomores, Rising Juniors, and Rising Seniors – were presented by the lacrosse, football and basketball standout at Half Hollow Hills East and lacrosse All-American at Hofstra University during the 1970s. Metzger, a lacrosse benefactor for youth, high school and college programs on Long Island, is founder, chairman and CEO of The Whitmore Agency, an insurance and financial services firm in the New York metropolitan area with offices in Garden City. “I look forward to continuing my support for our young lacrosse scholar-athletes in the coming years,” said Metzger.
