Volunteers needed to help solicit signatures for the recall of Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman. Read below and join us if you agree that Raman MUST BE RECALLED. Foolish Idealogue: Raman, along with Mike Bonin, twice voted in July 2021 against the removal of homeless encampments near public schools and other sensitive areas. Hypocritical: Raman refused to meet with constituents in March 2021 at the site of a Los Feliz homeless encampment that had been taken over by a notorious street gang citing COVID concerns. However, the next day, she thought nothing of protesting, in person, during the homeless encampment clean-up of Echo Park Lake. Governs by Fiat: Raman up-ended a decade of work by constituents regarding the Hollywood Plan (zoning) without consultation. Ditto when she put into motion a plan to convert a Mid-Wilshire parking lot into a homeless shelter with zero input from Cathedral Chapel School whose teachers, staff and parents use the lot. “Seventy-thousand constituents voted for us.... It’s not our goal to follow the 12 loudest voices in the room,” said Raman’s spokesperson in February 2021. Personal Homeless Ideology over Constituent Safety: Raman campaigned to end homelessness. Now elected, it’s clear she has no plan at all—just more of the failed policy that got Los Angeles where it is today: the epicenter of homelessness in the United States. Possible Ethical Violations/Conflicts of Interest, Abuse of Power & Corruption: Raman’s staffers are in direct contact with Ground Game L.A. on a near daily basis and she admits to “co-govern” with the Democratic Socialists of Los Angeles. She has supporters under contract working for her, but no such contracts have been approved, as is the law, by the Los Angeles City Council. She instructed a city worker to threaten arrest of a constituent in retaliation for his involvement in her recall. Destruction of Single-Family Neighborhoods:Raman supports SB10, allowing California cities, including Los Angeles, to build 10-unit apartment buildings (and up to four accessory dwelling units) on a single-family lot, with zero provision for affordable housing. Lack of Responsiveness to Constituents: Hundreds, if not thousands have reported, their phone calls or emails go unanswered by Raman’s office. Constituents wait for months to have a moment of her time, only to be left unheard when she signs out of meetings at 7 p.m. claiming she does not have childcare. Staff Set-Up to Fail: New council members typically seek input from community leaders on staffing to ensure a seamless transition. With no experience in Los Angeles (or any other type of government) Raman surrounded herself with sycophants (plucked mostly from her campaign) to the detriment of Council District 4. In some cases, Raman’s field deputies don’t know the difference between the city of Los Angeles and the County. We simply need 30 volunteers a day to get 10 signatures each.
