Description

MKE Youth Violence Prevention Day Resource ADVERTISEMENT MKE Youth Violence Prevention Day ~ Sept 18th Youth Violence is a serious problem that affects youth, families and communities. Advertising your nonprofit, organization, business, government agency or public entity will 100% support scholarships and incentives for underserved, marginalized, at-risk and low-income youth aged (14 - 24) who oftentimes fall victims or become involved in the cycles of violence and poverty. This book will feature young leaders and entrepreneurs striving to overcome barriers while inspiring their generation. We will distribute this book to the parents, mentors, caregivers, volunteers, vendors, sponsors and participants at the MKE Youth Violence Prevention Day event, the surrounding neighborhoods, grocery stores and at various partner organization locations including Faith Based Organizations and 501c3 partners. Each day, about 13 youth die from homicide and more that 1300 are treated in emergency departments for nonfatal injuries. Nationally, the lifetime costs of assault-related injuries among youth, including medical care, lost work and productivity are estimated to exceed 18 billion dollars. The Milwaukee Youth Prevention Day Steering Committee is comprised of stakeholders in the public, private, not-for-profit, faith-based and community. This Steering Committee recognizes that untreated trauma, low self-esteem, alcohol, drug abuse, lack of education, disabilities, unemployment, mental health, family conditions and peer pressure are often debated as “causes” of crime and violence. We recognize that in Milwaukee’s underserved, under-resourced and marginalized communities the root cause (s) of youth violence are linked directly to poverty, economic disparities and lack of access to critical resources. On Sept 18th, our goal is simply to bring together the best wrap-around community resources that our state and local agencies, businesses, community, and civic organizations have available to meet the unmet needs of underserved and marginalized at-risk youth, caregivers, and neighborhoods. In addition, we will invite advocates, educators, parents, social justice organizations, employers, healthcare, housing specialists, financial representatives, and businesses to provide solutions that can offset economic disparities which fuel the cycle of poverty and violence. This event will allow for a coordinated and collaborative approach so that families and youth can access proven resources quickly and act immediately in a non-judgmental friendly safe environment
