Description

Be Dam Ready is your opportunity to learn about the Tolt Dam and other hazards that you should know about. Saturday morning will start with a seminar about the Tolt Dam, what risks it presents to Carnation and the surrounding areas, and how being prepared for something unlikely such as a dam failure will make you prepared for almost anything. After the seminar, the local volunteer run Carnation-Duvall Citizen Corps Council will be hosting an open house to show two potential services they can provide during a disaster. First, CDCCC will setup an emergency shelter to show you what services are available if a disaster makes your home unlivable. Second, they will show what a volunteer reception center looks like where volunteers during a disaster can be recruited, trained, and organized. After the open houses, starting at 11am, we will be walking the pedestrian evacuation routes from in town up to the 'Evacuation Hill' site. At the evacuation site we will have booths setup where you can learn about emergency services and resources to get prepared, as well as have an opportunity to ask any questions you have about the Tolt Dam or other area hazards. At this fair, we will have local food vendors available to purchase lunch. Booths will be hosted by the City of Carnation, Carnation-Duvall Citizen Corps, Seattle Public Utilities, King County Emergency Management, King County Sheriffs Office, and Eastside Fire and Rescue. Be Dam Ready is a partnership between the City of Carnation, Carnation-Duvall Citizen Corps Council, Seattle Public Utilities, and King County Emergency Management. Making our communities safer, stronger and better prepared. The mission of the Carnation-Duvall Citizen Corps Council (CDCCC) is to serve the citizens of the Snoqualmie Valley by organizing and preparing committed volunteers to support the individual, the community, first responders and local officials before, during and after an emergency or disaster.   A prepared community is a resilient community.
