We are back! Join the only Natural Hair Pageant for Girls for a Mer'mazing Time! Come and witness one of the best community events. This wonderful community event, is centered around uplifing and empowering, African-American girl 4-13 years of age. We will welcome 20 young girls to the stage to display their natural hair, style, and personality. You don't want to miss these bubbly butterflies, as their family fiends, and community come out to cheer them on to the crown. All contestants receive prizes. The two major titleholders, Miss Young & Natural 2022 and Little Miss Young & Natural 2022, will recieve the biggest prize packages, worth over $750.00 and a limo ride, to the destination of their choice. We would love to see as part of the audience, clapping shouting, and smiling with our girls as they compete for the titles. While the healthy benefits and information of adorning natural hair is spreading, sadly, there are many young ladies who are still being teased and ridiculed about their crown and glory. In an effort to promote this increased awareness, we came up with a vision to give girls a fun and exciting platform on which to stand up and show off their individuality and natural creativity. Throughout this special event, young girls are encouraged to display their confidence, creative style, and articulation about various life subjects. These topics give our girls an opportunity to discuss themselves and the important roll they play within the community. They are asked to give an honest account of how they see their young lives and the importance of their future goals. This festive occasion gives participants and attendees alike a day to join together in sharing the joys of wearing their hair chemical-free, and to embrace one another's desire to live life to the fullest!We held our very first ever Young and Natural Hair pageant for Girls in 2013 at the Anacostia Art Center located in the historic Southeast district of Washington DC, just minutes from the home of Fredrick Douglas. There were 20 young contestants and over a hundred guests in attendance. Hosted by our very own Keith Walker, the pageant welcomed three well-known panel judges: Laquisha Hall (Miss Essence 2013), Melissa Roche (co-owner of Nappstar Hair Studios), and Ms. Greezy (owner and operator of Greezy Kids Hair Salon). It was a wonderful experience for all. This event has been growing in size ever sense. We are looking forward to you joining us in this year's festivities!
