OYSTER BAY, NY — Last week's heavy rainfall has prompted Nassau County health officials to issue an advisory against bathing at 16 beaches, including one in Oyster Bay. The advisory will be lifted at 7 a.m. on Tuesday. In an online bulletin posted Monday, the county's health department said the "advisory is issued as a precautionary measure for beaches known to be impacted by stormwater runoff..." Officials say stormwater runoff can elevate bacteria levels in the water — making it potentially unsafe to bathe in. Some common bacteria include E. coli and fecal coliform. The following beaches are under an advisory against bathing on Monday: Theodore Roosevelt Beach – Oyster BayNorth Hempstead Beach Park – Port WashingtonMorgan Sound – Glen CovePryibil Beach – Glen CoveTappen Beach – Glenwood LandingSea Cliff Village Beach – Sea CliffBiltmore Beach Club – MassapequaLaurel Hollow Beach – Laurel HollowRansom Beach – BayvilleCentre Island Sound – BayvilleSoundside Beach – BayvilleStehli Beach – BayvilleCreek Club – LattingtownLattingtown Beach – LattingtownPiping Rock Beach Club – Locust ValleyIsland Park Beach – Island Park
