Description

MARLBOROUGH, MA — State and local officials will dedicate a new section of Callahan State Park in Marlborough this week, officially opening more than 30 new acres to the public. Marlborough, the Sudbury Valley Trustees and the state Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) recently joined forces to purchase about 33 acres of farmland to add to the park. The new parcel will be located near the intersection of Parmenter, Edmands and Pine Hill roads. The nearly 1,000-acre state park borders Framingham, Marlborough and Southborough, offering miles of hiking trails, open fields and a off-leash dog area in Framingham. The first portion with 425 acres opened in northwest Framingham in 1970. DCR Commissioner Jim Montgomery will be on hand for a ribbing cutting Tuesday at noon. Park visitors can experience the new section via the north parking area along Nourse Street. A map of the new section can be seen on Marlborough's website.
