South Hill Brush Fire: Crews Work Through Night To Contain Blaze

PUYALLUP, WA — Firefighters spent the night Sunday battling to contain a South Hill brush fire. According to Graham Fire & Rescue, their crews were first called to the fire near the Sunrise community at around 6:30 p.m. While images of the scene show the blaze kicking up a lot of smoke, it remained relatively isolated and crews did not have to force any evacuations or road closures. They did, however, have to remain on scene, fighting the fire through the night to make sure it didn't spread any farther. The South Hill fire is the second major brush fire in East Pierce County in just a matter of days. The first, a fire burning near Bonney Lake, briefly forced a level one evacuation Thursday, but has since been fully contained. As of Sunday, firefighters were still patrolling that fire and putting out hot spots. Update from DNR Incident Command on the brush fire near Tehaleh in Bonney Lake. A county-wide burn ban has been issued for unincorporated Pierce County. A burn ban is also in place for all land managed by the Washington Department of Natural Resources.
