GLEN BURNIE, MD — A mom suffered minor injuries while rescuing her twin 18-month-old children from their burning home early Saturday. A fire broke out shortly before 3 a.m. at the home located at 27 New Jersey Ave. NW. The mom discovered smoke and fire coming from the front porch of her 1.5-story home and called 911. By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had consumed the whole front of the home and additional firefighters were summoned.
According to the Anne Arundel County Fire and Rescue Department, a firefighter was taken to the hospital to be examined. The home sustained $130,000 in damages. The mom and her twin toddlers have since been displaced and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross. The fire is being investigated by the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit.
Just 15 minutes before the 27 New Jersey Ave. NW house fire, a separate fire broke out at 1903 Ridgewick Road. The one-story home sustained $60,000 in damage. According to the department, the fire broke out in the basement. Smoke alarms in the home alerted the sleeping residents who awoke to smoke throughout their home. They evacuated the home and called 911.
Firefighters found a small fire in the basement. Two adults and three children have been displaced and are receiving assistance from the Red Cross. The Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit is examining the case as well.
