Born During Pandemic To Lift Spirits, 'East Haven Proud' Is Back

EAST HAVEN, CT — In late April of 2020, as the town was in the early days of the pandemic, the community came together to support each other with a motorcade, as so many events where previously people gathered, from anniversaries to birthdays, were celebrated with car parades. It became the norm. One of the people to have truly embraced the spirit was resident Mike Roy and his East Haven Proud Truck USA traveled the town playing uplifting music as the pandemic tightened its grip. 'East Haven Strong' was the theme and its pride renamed the motorcade that was organized in late April. And Town Hall soon wore the banner. With the success, and spirit, of the East Haven Proud motorcade inspiring many, Mayor Joseph A. Carfora wanted it to become an annual event and so this year, it's back. The East Haven Proud motorcade is set for Saturday Aug. 21 beginning at noon. (Route information is at the end of this post.) It will be followed by a celebration on the Town Green featuring vendors and food trucks and at 4 p.m., a performance from Billy Joel's guitarist and singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and band leader Mike DelGuidice. Route info The motorcade starts promptly noon and folks who are participating in the event should arrive early to line up. The motorcade ends at East Haven High School. And afterwards, folks should head to the Green for food trucks and concert.
