HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A driver who hit a utility pole very early Sunday morning now faces multiple charges in Hackettstown. The Hackettstown Police Department reported to the scene after being told a car hit a pole on Willow Grove Street at about 2:30 a.m. When police officers arrived, said Sgt. Darren Tynan - a spokesperson for the department - the driver was walking around. After speaking to him, the responding officer "detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage," Tynan said in a news release. After investigating, officers say the driver Timothy Buckley, 32 of Independence Township, hit the pole after driving southbound on Willow Grove Street, his car making its way to an embankment, after it spun around from hitting the pole. In addition to DWI charges, he also was charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain lane. Tynan says Buckley is now awaiting a court appearance. Mansfield Rescue Squad took Buckley to Hackettstown Medical Center for "non-life-threatening injuries, Tynan said. Questions or comments about this story? Have a news tip?
