PASADENA, CA — Students and staff members in the Pasadena Unified School District won't be required to get the COVID-19 vaccine when the new academic year starts Thursday, according to the Pasadena Star-News. While city officials announced it would require vaccinations for all municipal employees, the Pasadena Unified Board of Education declined to implement a similar mandate for district workers and students during its Aug. 5 meeting, the paper reported. The district's decision to not adopt a mandate received criticism from several city leaders, including Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo, who previously floated the idea of the city establishing its own learning centers and withholding money from the district if it didn't require COVID-19 vaccinations, according to the Star-News. Visit the Pasadena Star-News' website for the rest of its story on PUSD choosing not to implement a vaccine mandate.
