NORRISTOWN, PA — Norristown has approved several early projects, totaling $5.5 million, to be funded with its federal American Rescue Plan Act money. Norristown received a total of $20 million in economic stimulus money from the federal government to assist in its recovery from the pandemic. Municipal Council voted last week to approve the spending, which includes significant money for local parks, as well as infrastructure improvements. Among the approved projects was a $188,000 improvement to Simmons Park's basketball courts. Other parks funding included: Bartash Park Playground Equipment - $65,000McCann Park Playground Equipment - $65,000Latshaw Field Lighting Upgrade - $75,000>>Norristown Planning Use Of $20 Million In Economic Stimulus Money On the infrastructure front, Norristown has allotted $1.9 million to fund the first year of the Stormwater Authority. There was also $85,000 allotted to assess the sewer system. Millions in APRA funding remain at Norristown's disposal.
