JOLIET, IL — Joliet police arrested a 19-year-old man from Monee over the weekend in connection with felony weapons charges. Gabriel Alvarez was booked into the Will County Jail around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and having no FOID. Will County Jail records show that Alvarez's bail was set at $50,000. Around 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, Joliet police pulled over a car in the 200 block of Ohio Street for a traffic violation, reports show. Alvarez was driving, police said. Joliet police reports indicate that officers searched the car after smelling marijuana from inside. No marijuana was recovered and Alvarez was not charged with any cannabis-related offenses, police reports reflect. "Upon search of the vehicle, officers recovered a handgun in the center console of the vehicle. Alvarez was taken into custody without incident," Joliet police said.
