One Dead In Long Beach Speedboat Racing Accident

LONG BEACH, CA — A speedboat racer died after he was ejected from his vessel at about 110 mph on Sunday, the Long Beach Post reported. The man was a competitor in the Long Beach Sprint Nationals, which has been running in Long Beach for 75 years. The driver, who was not named, collided with another boat before his racer flipped several times and ejected him, Ross Wallach, president of the Southern California Speedboat Club, told the Long Beach Post. The man was rushed to an area hospital, where he died of his injuries. The race was shut down early on its concluding day Sunday as officials launched an investigation into the accident. "From everybody here, our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family," Wallach told the Post.
