Press release from the Village of Glenview: Aug. 9, 2021 On Thursday, August 12, the Village of Glenview will host an open house to encourage community feedback on development plans for downtown, as the Village continues its process of updating the Downtown Development (D-D) District code. The event will take place in the lobby of the Park Center (2400 Chestnut Avenue) from 7-9 p.m. Attendees are invited to participate in several activities to help the Village's consultant, CallisonRTKL, better understand the architectural and urban design elements the community would like included in potential new buildings to help ensure that development planning reflects the community's desired aesthetic preferences along Glenview Road and Waukegan Road. Attendees' feedback will also help shape code amendments that will be proposed at the Glenview New Development Commission meeting Wednesday, August 25. That meeting will provide further opportunities for community input, including a public hearing on the proposed code amendments. "Community collaboration is integral to our process," said Jeff Brady, Village of Glenview Director of Community Development. "As we begin to update the downtown code based on the feedback from the Glenview Connect process, we want to ensure the regulations for any new developments are reflective of the community's vision for downtown." The announcement to hold an open house follows the Village Board's adoption of the Economic Development Strategic Plan and the Downtown Strategic Plan at its August 3 board meeting. The Strategic Plans will guide potential future investment and code reform in five major focus areas, including downtown Glenview, to attract and retain businesses and provide continued economic health and vibrancy. Glenview residents can stay up to date on the code amendment process by visiting glenviewconnect.com which features a presentation including a "Planning 101" explanation on "What is a Form-Based Code?" as well as an overview of the existing D-D code requirements.
