MOORESVILLE, NC — A 39-year-old Mooresville man was recently arrested and charged with a dozen counts of felony identity theft after a victim reported that their name and personal information was used to open numerous accounts. The victim first reported the alleged crime to Iredell County Sheriff's Office in February. "The victim advised multiple credit cards and utility services had been opened using their name, and using their personal identifying information," ICSO said in a statement. During the course of an investigation, investigators interviewed witnesses and served numerous search warrants for the crimes that authorities said began in December 2019. "The evidence gathered verified Michael Chad Ward, as the suspect responsible for establishing all of the accounts," ICSO said. Ward was arrested July 31 and charged with 12 counts of felony identity theft. He was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was issued a $10,000 secured bond, ICSO said.
