MARIETTA, GA — In anticipation of increased patient volumes, Wellstar Kennestone Hospital officials proposed adding a $263 million tower to its existing Marietta hospital, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
An opening date has yet to be determined, as the proposal is still under review by the Georgia Department of Community Health. The tower would add 61 acute-care beds to the 633-bed hospital, as well as neonatal care.
"When we conceptualized Wellstar Kennestone Hospital's new Emergency Department, we also planned for an increase in patient admissions," said Mary Chatman, executive vice president of Wellstar Health System; president of Wellstar Kennestone Hospital; and Wellstar Windy Hill Hospital, in a statement to The AJC.
Wellstar Kennestone, the largest hospital in the Wellstar system, opened its emergency department in July 2020. Since then, the hospital was designated a Level I Emergency Cardiac Care Center — the highest level of recognition for emergency cardiac care in Georgia — by the state Department of Public Health.
