VA IRB: 3871 OHSU IRB: 17321 Volunteers are needed for a research study comparing alcohol-dependent smokers and non-smokers Study visits will include interviews, surveys, MRI brain scans, and tests of concentration, memory, and problem solving. Participation will last for 5 – 7 visits over about 4 months Participation is strictly voluntary and confidential Participants are paid about $420 in the form of gift cards over 5 – 7 study visits To participate, you should: • be between 18 and 55 years old • have a recent history of alcohol dependence (within 6 weeks) • be currently involved in a substance abuse treatment program • have not used drugs or alcohol for at least one week • have no foreign metal objects in your body (except metal from medical procedures) For more information please call Hoffman Lab at (503) 721-7964 Principal Investigator: William Hoffman, PhD, MD This study is being conducted at the Portland VA Medical Center, 3710 SW US Veterans Hospital Road, Portland, OR 97239 You do NOT need to be a veteran to participate
