5-yr old, male, turquoise-fronted Amazon parrot with large cage, toys, food and carrying crate for re-homing. Please read below before inquiring.... Diego has been well cared for, dna sexed and tagged, he definitely gets along better with males in most situations. He is not loud or yell ever, he will mimic the smoke alarm when it goes off and he will whistle and click when when he’s trying to call my dog up to him but the loud squawking that they are known for isn’t something I’ve ever heard him do. He is familiar and friendly with dogs, he does talk or say a few phrases regularly, normally hi and hello when you’re eating or your phone rings, I love you when he wants you to share food, he barks when my dog barks at him, he mumbles and says ‘yeah’ whenever you’re in conversation with someone, asks how are you doing? He will mimic a sneeze every time you sneeze and many other funny quirks but there are some issues too.... he is cage aggressive- he has always had the freedom to leave his cage and in the past year, he’s maybe left his cage 5x, however he does prefer sitting on the top perch above his cage 99% of the time and just interact with you from there. He isn’t a fan of being held, he will let you pet him and he will take food from you but doesn’t necessarily want to hang out on your shoulder with you. He has bitten me before but has never bitten my adult son who he definitely prefers more than me. We rescued him about a year ago from a younger couple who explained he bonded with the male more than the female and that’s pretty much how he has been with our family as well. It would be ideal for somebody who has had experience with parrots to adopt him. I am too nervous working with him after he bit me and he doesn’t like when I come around his cage at all, he doesn’t mind my son walking up to him but my son didn’t want a parrot so he doesn’t spend a lot of time with him.
