Description
Ride to sites in Alexandria associated with music, movies, and TV shows What was fact and what was fiction in Remember the Titans, the movie based on the story of Alexandria's 1971 Virginia state football champions? Where in Alexandria did the Foo Fighters record their Grammy-winning album There Is Nothing Left to Lose? What was Jim Morrison best known for during his high school years in Alexandria (hint: it wasn't his music)? Come find out on this free bicycle ride organized by the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee. The route is about 13 miles, with a mix of neighborhood streets, bike lanes, and trails, including some hills: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36919551. Riders of all ages and abilities are welcome, and we'll wait to regroup if we get separated. If you'd like to join for just part of the ride, that's fine too. If you're interested in participating but are concerned about the hills, Capital Bikeshare has e-bikes available for rent. Bring a functioning bike, a helmet, and water. If you're not fully vaccinated, please bring a face covering as well. You'll be asked to sign a waiver before the ride. We'll meet by the bike lockers at the Braddock Road metrorail station, 700 N. West Street, Alexandria, VA 22301. For everyone's health and safety, we'll be taking the following precautions: -- asking everyone to self-screen and not ride if they've experienced symptoms of covid or been exposed to a known covid case within the last 14 days -- asking people who are not fully vaccinated to give others at least 10 feet of space while riding and to wear masks during the stops (and also while riding if they can breathe comfortably while doing so) -- keeping an eye on local covid conditions, and cancelling the ride if needed The Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC) is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 charitable non-profit organization that promotes walking and biking, and infrastructure and policy changes that create a safe, accessible, and livable city for all. BPAC members are local volunteers who engage hundreds of Alexandria residents and seek solutions to safe walking and biking issues on their behalf.
