Description
OMAR (2013)(Unrated) Running time of 1 hour and 38 mins. Omar (Arabic: عمر, romanized: ʻUmar) is a 2013 Palestinian drama film directed by Hany Abu-Assad. It was screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Special Jury Prize. It was shown at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. The film was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards. It won Best Feature Film at the 2013 Asia Pacific Screen Awards. The film was screened at the United Nations in New York on 1 May 2014. Director Hany Abu-Assad describes putting together the idea of the film in one night, writing the structure of the story in four hours and writing the script in four days. The filming took place mainly in Nazareth, Nablus, Palestine and the Far'a refugee camp. Waleed Zuaiter managed to secure the $2m budget for the film, 5% of which came from Enjaaz, the post-production fund of Dubai International Film Festival and the remainder from Palestinians, hence making it the first Palestinian Film to be nominated as Palestine for an Oscar for Best Foreign Film. ONE (1) admission ticket PER PERSON is $13 for one movie, Omar; or $20 for a double feature of 3000 Nights (Aug. 26 at 7:30 pm) / Mayor (Aug. 27 at 7:30 pm) and Omar (starts at 9:30 pm). A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Palestine Children's Relief Fund (PCRF). The Palestine Children's Relief Fund was established in 1992 by concerned humanitarians in the USA to bring injured and sick children for free medical care they could not get locally. Since 1992, PCRF have sent over 2,000 sick and injured children for free medical care, as well as sponsored hundreds of volunteer medical teams from all over the world to treat tens of thousands of sick and injured youths in local hospitals. PCRF also has built two pediatric cancer departments in Palestine and has several more major programs and projects taking place to help support the development of a sustainable health-care system there. PCRF is a grassroots organization depending on the support of thousands of volunteers all over the world to help achieve its humanitarian mission. PCRF envisions a world where all children in the Middle East have access to quality medical care, regardless of nationality, religious or political affiliation, and specialized health services for children are independent and developed at the highest standards. PCRF's mission is to provide medical and humanitarian relief collectively and individually to Arab children throughout the Levant, regardless of their nationality, politics or religion.
