Join Green Building Alliance and Monmade as we explore the connections between sustainability, local artisan producers, and buildings.
Through a series of tours, participants will get a sneak peek at how local products are made and learn about how green building projects incorporate local products. We will explore values shared by locally produced building products, sustainably managed manufacturing spaces, and innovative green buildings. Join us for one or all of the tours!
The Pittsburgh Glass Center offers an example of early green building leadership, as the country’s first LEED certified public arts facility. The project incorporated existing building re-use, natural daylight and fresh air, and salvaged and reused building materials. The glass center itself provides classes in mosaics, glassblowing, fusing and flameworking, and its glassblowing demonstrations are not to be missed. Participants on this tour will learn about the building design and operations, insights into early green building leadership, and meet Monmade producers who work out of the space. Experience a variety of products that are manufactured for The Pittsburgh Glass Center’s Penn/Fairmount product line of barware and pendant lighting, which was most recently incorporated into Hazelwood Green's Roundhouse building.
