PITTSBURGH, PA — If you thought mask wearing had suddenly become as antiquated a practice as bartering for goods and services, think again. Mask requests and requirements returned to Pittsburgh and much of Pennsylvania in a big way.
Masks came back into the picture after about half of the 67 counties in the state showed substantial or high community transmission rates of the coronavirus. While Pennsylvania hasn't been hit nearly as hard by the COVID-19 resurgence as, say, Louisiana or Florida, the rates are high enough to meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention threshold for wearing masks in indoor areas - even for those fully vaccinated.
It's certainly a glum development, one of many that has arisen during the past year and a half of the pandemic. And it likely won't be the last.
