Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. stated, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” As Black August, the commemoration of fallen freedom fighters of the Black Liberation Movement, comes to a close, let's continue to honor the labor of families, artists, educators, creatives, organizers, and so many more who continue to build solidarity locally and internationally. **These ollas comunitarias/community pots serve as both a meeting place for families to safely gathering, receive food, and for working class neighborhoods to build strategies in response to government repression. COVID-19 and police violence has made getting food expensive and dangerous. Since April 2021, these community spaces have continued to grow and provide a safe haven. Solidaridad y Coraje is a collaboration between Houston artists, cultural works, and social justice activist to raise awareness and build community through creative means. We center rest and joy as acts of resistance.
