Description

MEDFORD, MA — The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism donated a playground communication board to the city of Medford based on the success of the police department's Autism Awareness Patch fundraiser in April. The board was installed at Dugger Park on Thursday. Communication boards help children who are non-verbal or have limited speech communicate at the playground. By pointing to the colorful pictures and symbols, they can express how they are feeling or let someone know what they might need, such as asking a new friend's name or indicating they have to use the bathroom. The Flutie Foundation's goal is to place communication boards in every community statewide to make playgrounds a welcoming place for all children.
