WESTPORT, CT — Dry chemical fire extinguishers were used to knock down flames at a Westport home after an electrical fire broke out Thursday afternoon. In a news release, Fire Chief Robert Yost said the house fire was reported on Compo Road South around 12:45 p.m. Crews quickly arrived at the home and discovered an electrical fire on the outside of the house from the electrical service drop, Yost said. "The interior of the house was checked, and no fire was found inside," Yost said in a news release. "Firefighters utilized dry chemical fire extinguishers to repeatedly knock down the exterior fire." The fire was completely extinguished after Eversource shut down power to the house, Yost said. No injuries were reported and residents evacuated the house before firefighters arrived. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Westport Fire Marshal's Office. Norwalk, Fairfield and Wilton fire departments assisted by providing station coverage and responding to other emergencies, Yost said. "We would like to remind our residents to never use water on an electrical fire," Yost said, "because water conducts electricity, and you could be electrocuted."
