Here are the top stories in Sacramento today: Visit Sacramento and The Farm-to-Fork Festival announced that proof of vaccine or a negative COVID-19 result will be required to attend the festival. (ABC10)On Friday, the DA's office announced that David Towner had been convicted of human trafficking, human trafficking of a minor, two counts of pimping, two counts of pandering, and two counts of witness intimidation. (CBS Sacramento)Smoke from surrounding fires has made it's way into the valley. It is recommended that Sacramento residents minimize outdoor activities and set their air conditioners to recirculate air. Contact your doctor if you have symptoms of cough, shortness of breath, or other symptoms you believe to be caused by smoke. If you want to check the air quality where you live, there is a website that is run by the state that will tell you your region's Air Quality Index (AQI) score. (ABC10)Animal evacuees from the River Fire need your help! There are over 500 animals that were evacuated from the River Fire that are being housed at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. They need to find foster homes soon because the Nevada County Fair starts on August 11. If you can help you are urged to call 211. (ABC10)It's gonna be epic! They're closing down part of K Street for roller skating for one night only! The event takes place on August 19th from 6-10 pm between 23rd and 24th Streets. There will be live entertainment and adult lawn games, arts and crafts and even tarot card reading. And of course some of the best food in Sacramento is available from restaurants in the area. But the central event is the skating! The event is free, but pre-registration is recommended so you can reserve your spot in the rink. This project took on asking the community to make stitched panels and count the number of stitches on each. The goal was 25 million stitches to represent the number of refugees, globally, at the time the project was started. There are panels from around the world, including some from local refugees from the Camp fire. The variety is stunning. The project has actually surpassed 25 million stitches and is still going strong. The exhibit ends August 22nd. From our sponsors — thanks for supporting local news!
