Potomac River Jazz Club celebrates 50 years! Includes BBQ meal provided by Mission BBQ with all the trimmings! Just minutes off the Capital Beltway 495. Take Georgia Ave North 1/2 block, stay in far left lane. Left on Forest Glen Rd. Pass the metro station. Right on Rosensteel Ave. Venue is on the right. Six hours of live jazz, 4 bands performing. Reminiscent of the Potomac River Jazz Club picnics of yesteryear, but indoors. Come, Join us in making more great memories. List of bands playing: Capital Focus Jazz youth band led by Dave Robinson for over 30 years in the Washington area. The youth have to audition yearly to retain their chair in the band. They have played for many Washington functions, on Capital Hill, countless venues all over the east coast and overseas festivals. Well known to many in the Mid Atlantic area. Some of these musicians go on to the entertainment world in New York City. Dave Robinson's PRJC Originals. Organized from bands that rocked this area over five decades throughout Washington DC. Jim Ritter's Creole Gumbo Jazz band is a well known band located in southern Maryland area, created by Jim in 2009. Jim has been an active member of the PRJC since 1975. These musicians have played for audiences over the last 45 years in one form or another. Currently the Creole Gumbo Jazz Band plays at the Westlawn in North Beach, Maryland. Jim Ritter on cornet, Gary Gregg on Albert -system clarinet like the early jazz reedmen, Tom Holtz on Tuba, a Buck Creek JB alumnus, Rick Rowe on Banjo. Jim's best known band was the Buck Creek Jazz Band, voted as one of the top four traditional jazz bands in the country by the readers of the American Rag and won two Wammie Awards from the Washington Area Music Association. Their music is alternately gentle, brash, inventive and full of teamwork. Their tunes are mainly from the 20s when jazz was America's popular music. DIXIELAND DIRECT JAZZ BAND is an exciting and energetic Washington DC based band that specializes in traditional New Orleans Dixieland music but its versatility encompasses other styles as well, these range from the music of the swing era, to society music to the Blues. An exciting and energetic Washington DC based that specializes in the New Orleans sound. Combining humorous lyrics and bandstand shtick to entertain the audience with its own arrangers as well as Scott Joplin rags, Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Cole Porter just to name a few. Many of these musicians have wowed Washingtonians for decades. Besides great live music, several presentations will be made during this gala, not to be missed by those loving traditional jazz.
