Searching for summer volunteers to help with cat shelter!
The Cal Poly Cat Program is looking for a boost from the community! Being a non-
profit, 100% volunteer run program, and full service cat shelter (located on campus),
donations are always welcomed but our current need for shelter volunteers is a major
concern. As the program is geared for students - “Learn by Doing” provides the students
with great learning opportunities and experiences - the challenge comes when the
students go home during the school breaks.
Cats and kittens don’t go on holiday and with a reduced crew during the summer months
it is a struggle to keep the place tidy and the kitties happy and healthy. Shelter duties do
take some elbow grease; cleaning cages & litter boxes, sweeping & mopping, and
laundry are a few of the chores. After the work is done you can spend time with some
pretty great cats and kittens, it’s a win, win for everyone!
Since the shutdown during Covid our program has been on steroids; last year 160 kittens
were rescued, over 160 feral cats were TNR’ed (trapped, neutered, and released), and 186
adopted. It takes a village to achieve all these amazing goals. If you are interested in
joining the team please visit our website, catprogram.calpoly.edu, to learn about our
shelter, volunteer opportunities, and contact information.
