World beat fusion band Diaspora is looking for a Latin-style Percussionist with a passion for world beat music for jamming and eventual public performance. We are looking for percussionists that have a least a pair of congas. Timbales, shakers, claves, cowbell, and block are a big plus. Brazilian and Middle Eastern drums, bougarbous and kpanlogos are desirable additions to our performance as well. The core group are performers that meet regularly and reliably in order to develop a repertoire. ***More on our Music and the Meaning of “Worldbeat”*** Worldbeat is a fusion of many styles that musicians have been developing in musically interconnected cultures of the Afro-Latin-Asian world and seems to share a common spirit and groove. This music Diaspora plays is not from any particular region or culture. It is a fusion of traditional and popular musical from Latin America/Caribbean, Africa, and southern Asia/Middle East. The music is fun, rhythmic, irresistibly danceable, infectious, and contagious. Assembling bands is not new for me, as I co-founded San Diego Taiko and formed the earlier incarnation of Diaspora. The goal of Diaspora is to perform in front of a dancing audience, which is one of the most euphoric experiences a musician can have.
