Description

Under 90k 2008 Honda Fit with faulty oil pressure sensor on freeway resulted in failed main/rod bearings(?) causing a knocking noise while idling/accelerating. Owner would like to compare labor cost of bottom end engine rebuild vs used engine replacement. Any competent independent mechanic or shop welcomed to offer bid on either option. Car will be towed to your garage/shop to have engine removed/examined to determine internal damage. It is presumed top end (heads/valves/springs) will not need to be rebuilt but extra labor cost will be added if replacement is necessary. Likewise, it is assumed cylinders will only need to be honed. If a re-bore is required extra labor cost will be given. Also presumed crankshaft will not require replacement but part will be provided if damaged. Master Engine Rebuild Kit (EK238M) will then be ordered with either standard or oversized pistons/rings/bearings. Kit also includes oil pump, timing belt, thrust washer and full gasket set. Other provided parts for engine overhaul include: cylinder head bolt set, crankshaft position sensor, oil pressure switch, thermostat, ignition coils, spark plugs, oil, filters, serpentine belt & radiator hose/fluid. A new A/C compressor will also need to be installed with refrigerant recharging.
