Description

Hello, I am in a unique position. I am a multi-instrumentalist and want to really improve on guitar. I have a doctorate in music. I know theory. I also teach music. Needless to say, I have mastered fundamentals...timing, reading music, theory, etc. I am a professional. Piano is my primary instrument, but I DO NOT want to play piano in this situation. For guitar, I would consider myself late-intermediate or early advanced. If I wasn't sick of school, I could get into a reputable university for guitar. What I am looking for is another musician(s) who would like to play jazz standards or jazz blues. I am also very open to composing new pieces, that do not necessarily have to be jazz based, but "popular music" based. You should either be a multi-instrumentalist with a similar or slightly better level than me on your secondary or tertiary instrument. Also, if you're willing to learn a new style of music on your MAIN instrument, I'm open to that as well. I just don't want boredom to set in if you play your main instrument. You must have transportation, be clean, courteous, practice, and reliable. I have been playing classical guitar for a couple of years but have recently been transcribing and play along with guitar solos from: Grant Green, Soulive, Charlie Christian, Pat Martino, etc. My goal is to become better at the fingerboard (positions, soloing...). I don't get too specific with popular music genres/subcategories...i.e. shoegaze, power-punk, prog-rock, acid-house, or whatever new f**king names are out there. I list all that stuff under "popular" music because 99% of it shares very similar characteristics...tonal, 4/4, simple or compound meter, song form, etc. A few popular music bands I like (but not all inclusive) are: Cocteau Twins, Smiths, Cure, Steely Dan, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Toro y Moi, Sea and Cake, of Montreal, Rush, Motown, Prince, new stuff, and so on. Jazz, I like includes Bill Evans, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Bill Frisell, Keith Jarrett, Miles Davis, Coltrane, all bebop guys....and more modern stuff. I also love 20th/21st century new music (art-music) but I would not be playing this on guitar. Lastly, I have stuff on youtube that I can share (my compositions and transcriptions) but only one that has me on piano. Please let me know.
