Description
Meet artist, Liz Zunon, see her mural Geraldine's Reverie, and take part in a short reading of her book. Capital Walls is a public art endeavor by Albany Center Gallery, Albany Barn and the Albany Parking Authority. The project seeks to inspire our community with uplifting, educational, or thought-provoking works of public art. The RED Bookshelf is a non-profit community literacy program. Working with community partners, we provide free children’s books on bright red bookshelves throughout Albany to ensure that all children have access to the benefits of book ownership, regardless of income level. Today we will meet artist Liz Zunon, and see her mural, Geraldine’s Reverie! The work of the Albany born artist is largely influenced by her childhood in Africa, the places she’s travelled to, and the people she’s met along the way. Meet the artist for a discussion about her mural, receive the book that she has written Grandpa Cacao: A Tale of Chocolate from Farm to Family. and take part in a short reading and Q&A. The Q&A session will discuss why the artist chose to write in addition to painting, the author's journey as a writer and advice for up and coming authors. We will highlight Albany art, Albany artists, provide books to young people and expose them to tangible career paths. Attendees will also receive collateral from Discover Albany to encourage further Albany exploration. Presented by The RED Bookshelf, Albany Center Gallery, Albany Barn and Discover Albany. Meet at the Discover Albany Visitors Center, corner of Broadway and Clinton Ave at Quackenbush Square. Free Saturday parking is available in the Quackenbush parking lot, accessible via Spencer St, just north of Clinton Ave. Follow The RED Bookshelf and Discover Albany on Facebook and Instagram for more updates on our Books and Blooms summer series! We encourage everyone to join us as we tour the city and inspire everyone to read for 15 minutes each day! The Discover Albany Visitors Center introduces the public to Albany’s history and culture by developing educational programs that encourage exploration of the cultural resources within the Heritage Area and the Capital Region.
