WEST HAVEN, CT — A West Haven man faces federal narcotics and ammunition charges, according to officials. A federal grand jury in Hartford returned an indictment Tuesday charging Chaz Reddick, 38, of West Haven, with narcotics and ammunition offenses, Acting U.S. Attorney for Connecticut Leonard C. Boyle announced. Reddick pleaded not guilty in federal court on Thursday. He has been detained since his arrest on related state charges on April 20, according to officials. West Haven police arrested Reddick after a distribution quantity of crack cocaine and multiple rounds of ammunition were found at his apartment during a court-authorized search, officials said. Reddick's criminal history includes state felony convictions for firearm, drug and larceny offenses, according to officials. "It is a violation of federal law for someone previously convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm or ammunition that has moved in interstate or foreign commerce," officials wrote in a news release. The indictment charges Reddick with one count of possession with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of cocaine base ("crack"), which carries a mandatory minimum term of five years in prison and a maximum term of 40 years in prison, and one count of possession of ammunition by a felon, which carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 10 years.
