RESTON, VA — Although ancient Egyptians loved their cats and even included drawings of domesticated felines in their hieroglyphs, there's no indication they celebrated International Cat Day. That's too bad. Any cat owner will tell you that their cat is the center of their attention — what choice do they have? In honor of International Cat Day on Sunday, Patch asked the cat lovers in Reston to share photos of their cats via Neighbor and Facebook posts. Due to the overwhelming response from Reston's cat-loving community, Patch's International Cat Day celebration will be spread out over several days. Check back on Monday for part two, which will feature more photos submitted by our readers of Reston's friendly felines. RESTON, VA — This is aj. I'm pretty sure he identifies as a dog lol. Both are adopted from 4Paws Rescue Team where I have volunteered. Monty is showing off by pretending he is in love with Roxy. They keep us amused and sometimes annoyed 24/7. We wouldn't have it any other way! Georgia. She is a rescue from Fancy Cats - South Lakes Pet Valu about two years ago. She is now 4 and is an equal opportunity lovebug! She spends her nights snuggling with everyone and purring loudly to make sure you know she is there. Sometimes you may wake up to find her asleep near your pillow too. In addition to her busy nightly routine, she regularly supervises (snoozes) throughout the workday to make sure her coworkers are staying on task. Below is a picture of her while working. We are lucky to have her as part of our family! Best, Katie McClain, Reston We brought Thomas home from the shelter on a cold winter's day January 2018. — Carol Ann, Reston We adopted a "working cat" pair from the Fairfax County Animal Shelter last year. It has taken a long warming up period, but now Tony feels more than comfortable lounging in the planters! — Megan Nehr Hutchison This is Empress Zoe. She rules her world with an iron fist. — Melissa Oaks Shallington, Reston Here is our Monkey cat. Rescued off the streets as a stray kitten.
