ROUND ROCK, TX — A man who was shot by Round Rock police after pulling a handgun on officer was arrested Thursday, authorities said. Jack Whitaker III, 19, of Round Rock was released from the hospital Thursday and was arrested and charged with aggravated assault on a public servant. Whitaker III faces additional charges and is currently on probation for burglary of a motor vehicle in McLennan County. Whitaker III will be booked in Williamson County Jail, Round Rock police officials said Thursday. Since WilCo Jail records do not show the 19-year-old booked in the jail, his bond is not yet available. Officials said the shooting happened early Wednesday morning after Whitaker III pulled a handgun at officers while he was being detained. Police received a 911 call around 5 a.m. for a man breaking into multiple cars in the 1000 block of Christopher Avenue, officials said in a statement Wednesday. When officers arrived, they saw Whitaker III exiting a car. While attempting to detain him, pulled a handgun, police said. Officers were able to establish a perimeter to search for him. Whitaker III was was later located at St. David's Hospital in Georgetown with a gunshot wound. He had non-life threatening injuries. On Friday, police identified Gavin Carmody as the officer who discharged his weapon in the shooting. Carmody, who has been with the department for four years, has been placed on administrative leave, as per RRPD policy. The department will continue its investigation regarding the officer-involved shooting in collaboration with the Williamson County District Attorney's Office, the Texas Rangers, and the FBI.
