Press release from Hammond Academy of Science and Technology: Dr. Egan August 4, 2021 GOOD AFTERNOON!!! FIRST DAYWe are VERY busy here at HAST preparing for the re-opening of school.  The first day is next Wednesday, August 11.  It is IN PERSON….although every other Wednesday for the remainder of 1st quarter is scheduled to be elearning days.On the first day, all middle school students should report to their grade level pods.  High school students should report to their first period class/grade level pod.   We may continue this practice for the first quarter, TBD.  UNIFORMSStudents should be in uniform for the first day of school.  We have a number of uniform deliveries here in the front office.  Students who don't yet have uniforms should wear a black shirt with black or khaki pants. LUNCH SERVICEWe will begin student lunch service on our first day of school.  The menu is available on our website.  Free/reduced lunch form link was sent out by me on July 23.  The forms are due in the office by September 30.Breakfast service will also be available for students who need to stop by the cafeteria to pick up a light breakfast in the morning.Breakfast and lunch fees will begin with the first day of school.Friday pizzas this year will NOT be Papa Johns, as they are not continuing their catering service for schools this year.  BUT, there will still be pizza on Fridays!! DROP OFF/PICK UPTo new and old families, please remember the traffic pattern at HAST.  Traffic coming to the front of the school for drop off and pick up is ONE WAY.  Follow the signage.  Stop at the stop signs.  Be patient and respectful of other drivers and families.  Especially at the end of the day.We encourage families to use nearby streets and the public parking lots nearby to drop off and pick up your children, to avoid congestion as much as possible.  If you are new to the school, you might want to take a practice drive to the campus and check out the neighborhood for pick up and drop off options.  There is a LARGE public parking lot at Homan and Rimbach (half block from school), and another large parking lot just north of St. Margaret's Hospital, behind St. Joseph's Church (also half block school).  Russell Street and State Line Road are also nearby options. COMMUNITY INFORMATIONAttached are flyers regarding rental assistance and food assistance programs that are open and available to eligible families.  If you are in need of food or rental assistance, I hope that you will take advantage of these programs.We regularly send out information for community events and family assistance programs.  We will continue to do so this year.We know that the return to in person learning is going to require re-training and re-adaptation to school norms.  We thank you in advance for your patience.Enjoy the last days of summer vacation!
