PA Congressman Conor Lamb Announces U.S. Senate Candidacy

PITTSBURGH, PA — U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb has entered the increasingly crowded Democratic field in next year's U.S. Senate race. Lamb announced his intentions in a YouTube video posted Friday morning. Lamb, 37, is a former Marine and federal prosecutor. A resident of Mt. Lebanon in suburban Pittsburgh, he vaulted to Congress in 2018 in by defeating two Republican candidates backed by former President Donald Trump. Lamb joins Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh and state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta of Philadelphia in the race. Republican Pat Toomey, who currently holds the Senate seat, is retiring at the end of 2022. Financially, Lamb appears to have the financial resources to run a competitive campaign. His congressional committee had nearly $1.8 million on hand at the end of June, according to Federal Election Commission records. That amount puts Lamb him well behind Fetterman, who had $3.1 million in his campaign coffers on June 30. But he's financially ahead of Arkoosh, who had $637,000 and Kenyatta, who had $282,000. Lamb currently represents the 17th Congressional District, which is located in western Pennsylvania but does not include Pittsburgh. The district encompasses part of the state's southwestern border outside of the city and includes all of Beaver County, a section of Allegheny County, and a small portion of Butler County.
