DOYLESTOWN, PA — Of all the furry critters residents might be used to seeing in Doylestown parks and the surrounding area, there was something entirely different there this week.
Flyers beloved mascot Gritty emerged from the bushes in Central Park on Wednesday to lead a "Caravan" pep rally to spark up support for the orange and black.
The Caravan is actually an annual event, stopping across the Philadelphia area each year. However, it typically serves to simply spread Flyers awareness and renew interest in hockey during a down period. Gritty was warmly received, however, with local law enforcement thanking him for stopping by:
Former Flyers players Bob Marsh and Bob Kelly were also in attendance at the event.
Fans in attendance were given prizes like bucket hats, flip flops, sunglasses straps, tank tops, beach towels, and more.
Future stops for the Caravan are planned in the following locations:
Tuesday, August 17 -- 5 p.m. Ocean City, NJ Wednesday, August 25 -- 5 p.m.Collingswood, NJ Thursday, August 26 -- 5 p.m.Fairless Hills, PA/Falls Township
